I finally had a chance to see my little niece and her mom and dad. I have been wanting to take some photos of them since I got my new camera, but it’s been difficult to find a time that worked out for everyone to come visit. Once we eventually had a free weekend to go down to College Station, we decided to take some shots out at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University, which is where I went to college, along with my sister (Fiona’s mom), her husband, and my girlfriend. (Stay tuned for some random photos from the library, including one of Mr. and Mrs. Bush themselves.)

The shoot started off alright, we found some nice lush grass and let Fi lie down in it while I snapped away. The lighting made it a little difficult to avoid some shadows on her face, but a few turned out alright anyway. We went on around the pond and took a few of Fi “sitting” in a flowerbed, leaning against a wooden post, but she had a hard time sitting up on her own, and quickly decided that she wasn’t happy sitting on the ground, and that she was hungry. The crying erupted through the pristine quiet around the pond, upsetting at least one angler, and so the shot returned to the parking lot, where Fi was promptly fed in the car, and it was determined that she was too tired to carry on. The life of a model is tough. It’s too bad, because the sun was getting just perfect to take some shots out in a field adjacent to the library, and I was really looking forward to trying to shoot some flare. Oh well, there’s always next time.

We went back to my sister and her husband’s apartment, where I took a few shots of Fi in their bedroom with some ambient light from the window. It wasn’t too bright, so I had to push my camera’s low-light capability to the max while shooting hand-held. The shots turned out kind of grainy, so I decided to use one in black and white, since the grainy look lends itself well to black and white in my opinion.
