The Loves – Part 2

July 2, 2009

Hey guys! So, I have been pretty busy the past week with the usual business, along with getting some things lined out photography-wise that I am pretty excited about. Since I promised some images from the rest of Katherine and Ben’s wedding, here are a few of my favorites. Sorry Hayley.

Dani & Garrett

June 23, 2009

About a month ago now, I had an absolute blast shooting engagement portraits for my friend and co-worker Garrett and his lovely fiancé Dani. I have been crazy busy with work and life (more on that in a later blog post, I promise!) so it has taken me a while to get these finished up. I apologize for that, and hope it was worth the wait. Dani, it was a pleasure getting to know you over the course of a couple of hours of shutter snapping, and I cannot wait to shoot your wedding in another month! I hope you guys enjoy your images, and thanks so much for letting me shoot you!

Stay tuned for some images from the reception that should be up soon, or at least faster than it took me to get these up. Thanks again, Katherine and Ben, for letting me shoot your wedding, and I hope you enjoy your images!

On Memorial Day I had the pleasure to shoot the wedding of two good friends of mine, Katherine and Ben Love. Things have been kind of crazy since Monday, and I am getting ready to move this weekend, so I won’t have a chance to sort through and edit all 1700+ photos from the wedding until next weekend. Since I’ve had several people ask about how the photos turned out (and I was a little curious to take a peek at them myself), I decided to post one image from the wedding. I hope you enjoy!

Kim & Jack

May 9, 2009

Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking a few shots of my friends Jack and Kim for their engagement and upcoming wedding. With the crazy weather we’ve been having around here lately, I had kept a close eye on the forecast for the weekend, and before I left Dallas the weather was supposed to be sunny and clear the rest of the evening. About 15 minutes into the shoot, the sun went behind a cloud and I thought, “well, let’s just wait a minute until the sun comes back out…” and then I looked and saw the biggest wall cloud ever taking over the entire sky, swallowing the sun, never to be seen again. Sweet. So, we continued to shoot and tried to get as much in as we could before the heavens inevitably opened up and soaked us. I was a little unsure about how the images would turn out due to the lack of sun, but I think I still got some pretty good shots considering we were under a tornado watch and it was starting to lightning all around us. At least it cooled off a bit, since it was in the 90s when we started shooting. Kim and Jack, thanks for letting me take you guys out and take photos of you guys for a couple of hours! I hope you enjoy your images and I can’t wait for your wedding! I hope we got the bad weather out of the way on the engagement shoot!

This past week I had the amazing opportunity to spend a few days in Orange County, CA with my good friend and amazing photographer Michael Norwood. Michael was kind enough to take the time out of his busy schedule to give me a mini-workshop and take me on a couple of shoots, plus we got to hang out and enjoy some of the amazing food and wonderful people that Southern California is home to. I also had the pleasure of meeting the incredibly talented and super nice photographers Jory Cordy and Jessica Claire my last night out there.

On Wednesday we had some beautiful weather and amazing light, so we took Michael’s adorable daughter on a mini-shoot in the hills about 5 minutes from his house. She was a blast to photograph, and I think I got some pretty good images, although it’s hard to mess it up when you’re shooting such a cute little girl. Thanks again to Michael and Cyndie for letting me come out and visit and stay in your home! I had a wonderful time and it was so great to see you guys again!

Shauna & Alex

March 16, 2009

This Sunday, after half a week of nasty Texas springtime weather, I had the joy of going with one of my life long friends to take some engagement shots of another friend of ours and her fiance, Alex. The sunlight was a little iffy at first, but towards sunset the sky cleared and we got some really good light. It was my first time taking any photos like these, and I have mixed feelings about the results. Sort of one of those “I imagined it differently in my head” kind of things. I tried to do a little flare and it didn’t really turn out like I wanted. Practice makes perfect, they say. Anyway, all things considered, I am happy with how they turned out.

Shauna and Alex, you did a wonderful job putting up with us making you do silly things in front of all kinds of people, walk all over the West End in heels (well, not Alex), freeze to death once the sun started to go down, and get muddy and wet in that field I found…but hey, you guys looked good! I am so glad you gave me the opportunity to tag along and put a camera in your faces for a few hours. Thank you guys so much! I hope you enjoy your photos!

This weekend was the annual Best Weekend in February (2009 Edition). This long standing tradition involves a group of guys – friends – taking time to leave their busy schedule, beautiful girlfriend/fiancĂ©e/wife, and cell phone reception behind to enjoy about 24 hours of just being a man in the woods. The event involves: guns (of course), steaks (deliciously prepared by our wonderful host’s dad), adult beverages, poker, more guns, the inevitable killing of some “innocent” animal, and of course wonderful reminiscing about days gone by and discussion of things yet fulfilled. This year’s edition included 6 out of 10 Luther Boys (Colby, D.O., Dwight, John, Logan, and myself) as well as our good friends Jonny, Steven, and Jared. I’ll stop talking and get on to the photos.

Fiona Vae

February 22, 2009

I finally had a chance to see my little niece and her mom and dad. I have been wanting to take some photos of them since I got my new camera, but it’s been difficult to find a time that worked out for everyone to come visit. Once we eventually had a free weekend to go down to College Station, we decided to take some shots out at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University, which is where I went to college, along with my sister (Fiona’s mom), her husband, and my girlfriend. (Stay tuned for some random photos from the library, including one of Mr. and Mrs. Bush themselves.)

The shoot started off alright, we found some nice lush grass and let Fi lie down in it while I snapped away. The lighting made it a little difficult to avoid some shadows on her face, but a few turned out alright anyway. We went on around the pond and took a few of Fi “sitting” in a flowerbed, leaning against a wooden post, but she had a hard time sitting up on her own, and quickly decided that she wasn’t happy sitting on the ground, and that she was hungry. The crying erupted through the pristine quiet around the pond, upsetting at least one angler, and so the shot returned to the parking lot, where Fi was promptly fed in the car, and it was determined that she was too tired to carry on. The life of a model is tough. It’s too bad, because the sun was getting just perfect to take some shots out in a field adjacent to the library, and I was really looking forward to trying to shoot some flare. Oh well, there’s always next time.

We went back to my sister and her husband’s apartment, where I took a few shots of Fi in their bedroom with some ambient light from the window. It wasn’t too bright, so I had to push my camera’s low-light capability to the max while shooting hand-held. The shots turned out kind of grainy, so I decided to use one in black and white, since the grainy look lends itself well to black and white in my opinion.

Anyway, enough rambling. Enjoy the photos!
